Servants Anonymous Training
How does one design an organization to be sustainable, deliver excellent services, navigate the complexities of tax law, all while providing a structural framework capable of negotiating the difficulties of lots of flawed well-meaning people guiding it for long periods of time? WHEW! Intensive training during the Fall primarily attempting to answer these questions was accomplished by the members of your Operational Development Team (ODT). All training was conducted by the official training agency for GenerateHope- the Servants Anonymous Foundation (SA).
Traveling to Vancouver, British Columbia for almost a week of “governance” training, the ODT did extensive planning about what we hope GenerateHope will grow to be like in the future. One-year, five-year, and ten-year planning occurred as well. Corporate Bylaws were finalized and the “culture” of GenerateHope was discussed. This process is like writing a business plan. It forced the ODT to think about our future services, clients, volunteers, funding sources, and expected success rate. It taught us to calculate a Social Return on Investment or SROI to prove quantitatively how GenerateHope wisely uses resources to accomplish our mission. Akin to an architect designing a building before the first shovel splits the earth, the ODT feels this training will benefit our organization’s mission for years to come.
